Guidance Counselor Survey

This survey aims to collect information from Charleston County school district guidance counselors. Please answer the following open-ended questions as thoroughly as possible and select one answer for the yes/no and multiple choice questions. All responses are confidential. This data is being gathered for use in a Senior Thesis.
 
1: How many students do you counsel?   
2: Do you know of any undocumented (illegal immigrants) students within your student body?   
3: If yes, how many undocumented students are you aware of?   
4: Have you heard of the South Carolina Illegal Immigration Reform Act passed on July 1, 2008?   
5: If yes, what are your opinions of the act?   
6: Have you ever been asked or had the opportunity to help an undocumented high school student go to college?   
7: If yes, how many undocumented students have asked you or have you been able to help?   
8: Are guidance counselors informed or instructed on how to guide undocumented students toward a college career?   
9: If yes, in a couple of sentences, could you please explain who gives guidance counselors such instructions and give a brief summary of the instructions or guidelines guidance counselors are given?   
10: Have you seen or do you know of any sources of information for undocumented students or their parents about their college options?   
11: If yes, could you please list the sources.   
12: In your opinion, do you think undocumented students should receive higher education after high school in the United States?   
13: Why or why not?

15: Please read each statement carefully and circle one of the given options following every question. Please make sure to only circle one. The federal government should pass a law to aid undocumented students who are trying to apply to college.   
16: The decision to allow undocumented students into college institutions should be left specifically to the institution.   
17: High school guidance counselors are aware of laws and regulations regarding undocumented students attending college.   
18: Undocumented students deserve the same scholarships as American citizens.   
19: Some undocumented students are better scholastically qualified for college than many of the applicants that are U.S. citizens.   
20: As a guidance counselor, I know what to do when an undocumented student asks for information about applying to college.   
21: Guidance counselors should be aware of the number of undocumented students that are within their student body.   
22: The school district has provided guidance counselors with information about helping undocumented students apply to college.   
23: Note: In states such as Texas, New Mexico, California, Oklahoma and New York, state governments have passed laws to make higher education for undocumented students an affordable opportunity by allowing them to pay in-state tuition as long as they had attended a state high school for at least three years. What is your opinion regarding the preceding statement?   
24: Undocumented students should be able to receive scholarships and other forms of financial aid from public colleges and universities based on strict criteria such as the one stated above.
