RAD ( Read Across Disciplines)
RAD, Read Across Disciplines, is our school wide reading program.  This program was implemented in accordance with HSTW (High Schools That Work) standards, and is designed to encourage our students to become more widely read.  All readers tend to stick to one type of genre, i.e. mostly fiction, non-fiction, informational texts, and never venture further.  By creating a small sub-set of carefully selected books in all genres, we hope to encourage our students to delve into areas they might not have considered before.

All students must read 25 books by the time they graduate.  We encourage them to read 6-7 books per year in a variety of genres - fiction, non-fiction, biography, short story, poetry.  They may choose a book from our RAD collection, or read a book of their own choosing that is appropriate and on or above their reading level.  After reading their selection, students have a choice of answering a set of questions about the book, conferencing with a faculty member who also read the book, or posting a review of the book in our school library catalog.  A log of what they have read each year should be completed and the focus teacher keeps those logs for them.
