Our School
Our school is a county-wide magnet focused on scholastic rigor and excellence. The mission is to challenge each student, teacher, and parent with high academic expectations. Centrally located and serving approximately 680 students, AMHS provides a close-knit learning environment that prepares young adults for college and develops self-esteem.
- AMHS students are encouraged to be citizens of the world, cultivate a respect for cultural diversity, and acquire a sense of global responsibility.
- All courses are taught at the honors or Advanced Placement level, offering students an unmatched opportunity to earn college credit and to earn a grade point average greater than 4.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- AMHS students are required to conduct a 2 year-long research project in the field of the student’s choice through the AP Capstone course. Juniors take Capstone Seminar and Seniors take Capstone Research. Students have been published in academic and professional journals in such fields as psychology, chemistry, and epidemiology.
In addition to academics, AMHS offers many choices in sports, from football and basketball to lacrosse and crew. But if your extra-curricular interests don't lie in sports, we have over 50 clubs for you to choose from, offering everything from baking to dance to chess and lots more!
We moved into a new state-of-the-art facility in 2010 and share this campus with another magnet school, The School of the Arts. Our campus houses a cafeteria with wi-fi access, a 600 seat auditorium and 200 seat lecture hall, and a media center with 3 computer labs.
